HIMARS) CrewmemberMultiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS/HIMARS) CrewmemberA Multiple Launch Rocket System (MLRS) Crewmember is an important part of the Armys combat team. MLRS teams are used to support infantry and tank units while supplementing cannon artillery in combat, but they also have responsibilities during peacetime. The MLRS launches various missiles and ammunition in quick strikes during combat. The crewmembers are responsible for operating and maintaining the entire MLRS system. Duties Performed Drives the M270 Self-Propelled Loader Launcher and the ammunition re-supply vehicle and trailerPerforms operator/crew maintenance on the self-propelled loader launcher and ammunition re-supply vehicle and trailerPerforms ammunition reload operations on the launcher and re-supply vehicleTests, removes, and replaces fire control system components as needed on the M270 launcher and the launch pod/container trainerMounts radio sets in vehicles, cables communication components in M27 0 launcher and operates and performs operator maintenance on communications equipment Assists section chief in thesupervision of operations, maintenance, and trainingLeads and instructs the reconnaissance team in combat operationsAssists the ammunition section chief in thesupervision of the section during ammunition re-supply operations, maintenance, and trainingPerforms start-up of fire control system, and operates multiple launch rocket system fire control system in all modes of operationMakes manual fire control entries and enters meteorological data into the fire control system Fires weapon on commandPerforms fire control system diagnostic test using built-in test equipmentPrepares launcher-loader module for reloading and performs maintenance operationsConducts reconnaissance to determine routes and precise firing location sites Initial Training Information Job training for multiple launch rocket system crewmember requires 10 weeks of Basic Combat Training and four weeks of Advanced Individual Training with on-the-job instruction. Part of this time is spent in the classroom and in the field under simulated combat conditions.
